How to Connect Email Clients to Servers
Email clients are software applications that enable you to send, receive, and manage emails directly from your device. Nili offers support for IMAP, POP3, and SMTP protocols, which are compatible with a wide variety of popular email clients like MS Outlook, Mac Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird, and mobile email apps on iPhone, Android, Blackberry, and more.
Here’s a detailed guide to help you configure your email client for use with Nili’s email servers.
Email Protocols Supported by Nili
- IMAP (Internet Mail Access Protocol): Suitable for users who want to manage emails from multiple devices. It syncs your mail data across all devices.
- POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3): Best for users who prefer to download and manage emails from a single device.
- SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol): Used for sending emails from your Nili email account.
How to Configure Your Email Client
General Configuration Settings
Regardless of which email client you’re using, the general settings remain more or less the same. Here’s what you need to know:
Incoming Mail Settings
For IMAP:
- Server: email.nili.email
- Port: 993
- SSL: Enabled
- Authentication: Required
- Email: [email protected]
For POP3:
- Server: email.nili.email
- Port: 995
- SSL: Enabled
- Authentication: Required
- Email: [email protected]
Outgoing Mail Settings (SMTP)
- Server: email.nili.email
- Port: 465 or 587
- SSL: Enabled
- TLS: Required
- Authentication: Required
- Email: [email protected]
Step-by-Step Configuration Guide
For MS Outlook:
- Open MS Outlook and go to
File > Account Settings
. - Click on
New
to create a new email account. - Enter your email details and choose
Manually configure server settings
. - Input the Incoming and Outgoing mail server settings listed above.
- Save and test the settings.
For Mozilla Thunderbird:
- Open Thunderbird and go to
Menu > Options > Account Settings
. - Click
Add Mail Account
under theAccount Actions
dropdown. - Enter your Nili email credentials.
- Choose
Manual config
and enter the server settings mentioned above. - Click
Done
and test to see if everything works fine.
For Mac Mail:
- Open Mac Mail, then go to
Mail > Preferences
. - Click
Add Account
and input your email credentials. - Choose
Other Mail Account
and clickContinue
. - Input the incoming and outgoing server settings.
- Save and test the setup.
Important Notes
- Authentication is Mandatory: For all three protocols (IMAP, POP3, and SMTP), authentication is required.
- SSL and TLS: Always ensure SSL is enabled for incoming emails and that TLS is required for outgoing emails to secure your email communication.
